I love being a part of a good surprise and Mother’s Day was the perfect opportunity for Kevin to surprise his wife, Jill with photos of their kiddos Luke, Abby, and Justin. That meant Jill didn’t have to do any of the prep work with picking outfits or getting kids ready —this alone is a gift in itself, I swear!
Now, Kevin knew he had to play his cards right and schedule this photo session of his kids at a time when Jill wouldn’t be home so he set it up when he knew she would be working out with a friend. He also didn’t want her to suspect anything fishy, so he went with a sports/Cardinals theme for their photos, instead of super dressy and fancy. Not to mention, kids always seem to be happier when they’re in clothes they want to be wearing. Smart hubby, smart dad! So, the kids looked great and Jill was none the wiser ;)

I met up with Kevin and the kids at St. John Vianney High School, where Kevin teaches history and coaches the basketball team. It’s a super important place in his family’s life and, bonus, it has a lot of awesome places for photo ops! I love when clients choose a place for photos that has meaning to them. It makes the session that much more personal and clients always feel more at home when they’re in familiar surroundings. Kevin, Jill, Luke, Abby, and Justin pretty much live and breathe Vianney, so this couldn’t have been any more perfect!
Kevin’s kids were excited and ready to go from the beginning of the session. They had high energy and they were fully prepared to burn it off which was great because I was able to capture each of the kids in their element and they were able to have some fun along the way.
Justin is Kevin and Jill's youngest. He's so sweet and reserved, but gets along great with both of his older siblings. It's really adorable to see both Luke and Abby interact with this little guy. He keeps an eye on them and is definitely absorbing what he sees! You can see the little sports fanatic growing inside him already!
Abby is the middle child and has a lot of spunk. She likes to be the center of attention when she can get the attention off her two brothers. I can relate, I'm kind of a middle child too (well, one of the middle children...I'm the 6th of 8 kids). She looks up to her brother, Luke, but is clearly paving her own way. And she's my kind of girl -- totally into sports and isn't afraid to get dirty and sweaty alongside the boys! She definitely reminds me of her mom in the best way possible!

Luke is the oldest and he is a Vianney Griffin in the making. You say jump and he says how high. There isn't a challenge I put him up to that he wasn't willing to accept. And if I didn't immediately have an idea, he was quick to suggest one. He's definitely the leader of the pack (well, with the kids anyway...ha!), and though he groans when Abby does things like put her arm around his shoulder, he still gets along well with her. I just love that they all showed their affection towards each other in their own little ways. Don't worry, there's also a sufficient amount of sibling rivalry and competition to go around too. I mean, you can't have a high school basketball coach for a Dad and NOT love a little competition!

Kevin swapped out the photos in their house the morning of Mother’s Day before Jill woke up (Love those creative gifts that clearly show thought was put in to them!) and when she saw them, she got teary eyed. Ahh, isn’t it just so easy to tug at a Mom’s heartstrings especially with photos of her own kids?!
Thanks for letting me be a part of your Mother’s Day surprise!! Jill, I hope you love the photos as much as I loved hanging with your kiddos and Kevin for this session!
